MySpace:
  • This is a subsidiary social networking website founded by two Los Angeles entrepreneurs, Tom Anderson and Chris Dewolfe, and was first launched in August 2003. Their current headquarters is located in Beverly Hills, California. Their website was designed to encourage members to create personal profiles and to share photos, videos, and blogs with other members. MySpace was also designed as an easy way for musicians to connect directly with their fans. Within the next few years after MySpace was launched, it quickly became one of the more popular website destinations on the Web.

    Facebook:
  • This is a private online social network website, created by an American computer programmer by the name of Mark Zuckerberg. Zuckerberg and his fellow classmates created the network in their college dorm room on February 4th, 2004. The website was originally created and limited for only Harvard students to access, but over the years Facebook has eventually expanded for access to anyone over the age of thirteen. Facebook currently has two headquarters located in Palo Alto, California and Dublin, Ireland.

    Friendster:
  • This is a private Internet social network service, founded in Mountain View, California by Jonathan Abrams. Friendster first launched on March 22nd, 2002 and features the ability to create your own customized profile, adding new friends and leaving comments on their profiles, and joining groups and discussions. Similar to MySpace and Facebook, Friendster unfortunately does not include instant messaging or chat rooms, and the inability to upload videos to share with other members. Friendster was funded by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Benchmark Capital in October 2003 with a reported valuation of $53 million.

    Microsoft:
  • First founded on April 4th, 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Gates currently serves as the Chairman of the Microsoft Corporation, and Allen is the Chairman of Vulcan Inc. in Washington. The headquarters of Microsoft is currently located in Redmond, Washington. A computer technology corporation that develops, manufactures, licenses, and supports a wide range of software products for computing devices. One of many well known collective brand names include Windows Live, which is a set of software products from Microsoft. Windows Live Messenger is the top used instant messenger for personal file sharing, and voice over IP client.
